The Evil Dead... Again (Netflix Unrelated)

I chose The Evil Dead as a starting point because I wanted to pass on the news of the reboot that is in production.  The new The Evil Dead is being produced by Raimi while Diablo Cody is writing and Fede Alvarez directing.  Alvarez has only done short films, none of which I've seen, but there's no way he'd be allowed to screw this up.  That's not to say that the film won't be bad, but Raimi and the Powers That Be won't let him go outside of the boundaries of what is wanted.  Cody, as you probably know, blew up on the film scene with Juno but her stuff since (Jennifer's Body, Young Adult) has been mostly overlook-able even if it was entertaining.  Personally, I was originally skeptical about the film because the remake gene is barely skipping a generation these days, but I have to admit - I've grown to be interested in it.  Raimi recently gave us Drag Me To Hell, which was a good tongue-in-cheek return to horror for him after a long hiatus (despite his Ghost House production company, which usually produces terrible Japanese scare flick rip-offs), but he's not actually manning the camera for the new TED.  So, again, I was skeptical.  Then, however, I saw the trailer below, which surfaced some months ago, and, now - I'm freaking excited!

Check it out here!

It follows the current horror trend of taking itself way too seriously, but the angle that grabs me: the self-mutilation!  Think back to the original; now, think about what they can do with that today!  And the trailer eats it up.  Again, I'm really excited about this.  We'll see what happens in April 2013.

And, as a side note, I'm typing this as The Evil Dead finishes up in the background, and sheesh - these sound effects are crazy!  Turn off the lights, crank up the sound, and don't look at the picture.  You'll pee in a cup before you go to the bathroom!

"We're gonna get you, we're gonna get you!
Not another peep - time to go to sleep!"
